At Guerrino Dentistry, we believe that comprehensive dental exams are the first step to continuing dental health. Once you have received a full dental exam, we can better help you assess the situation at hand and decide on some dental goals. Occasionally, patients are in need of bridgework. Possibly an old bridge has failed, or you are simply in the market for a glorious new smile, but don't have the healthy teeth with which to do it anymore.
A typical dental bridge is not much different from an implant supported bridge except… rather than natural teeth supporting the bridge, there are implants doing the job. Ordinarily, for each missing tooth, one implant is placed in the jawbone. Then, to form one piece, the crowns are connected to each other. This is a good solution for someone that doesn't have enough healthy teeth with which to anchor a regular dental bridge. How much time it takes to complete the process of implanting a bridge is determined by any number of factors – depending largely on the individual. The process includes initial exams which will involve x-rays. Surgeries and bridge implant placement will follow. If, before the bridge can be implanted, bone needs to be built up, the process can last considerably longer than it would otherwise take. Ordinarily, however, to prepare the implant, two surgeries will be needed. There is then a healing period that will take place after the initial implant, after which the bridge can be placed.
As mentioned, if you are missing teeth, have had teeth pulled, need teeth pulled, etc., you will likely want a bridge with which to replace those teeth. If, however, you don't have enough healthy teeth with which to anchor the bridge, this is where a bridge implant comes in. Guerrino Dentistry will gladly assist with an expert determination as to whether a bridge implant is the right decision for your dental health and needs.
Our dental specialists will explain each and every detail involved in your bridge implant before starting the procedure. We will go through each and every step that will be taken so that you have a full understanding of the process and end result. First and foremost, an initial consultation will be done during which either a general dentist or prosthodontist will discuss with you your restoration and placement of a bridge implant. A comprehensive exam will include taking impressions of your gums and teeth, taking x-rays, and reviewing your dental and medical histories. Sometimes, a mouth CT scan is needed to show nerves and sinuses. As the process moves along, there will be two surgeries, and then a restorative phase involved.
Guerrino Dentistry wants to put your mind at ease, even if a visit to the dentist is not ordinarily on your list of favorite things. We will make you feel comfortable and secure with a relaxing environment and caring staff members. You will soon be able to enjoy a far more comfortable and secure smile with your bridge implant – particularly compared to a removable partial denture that used to simply sit on your gums. For your convenience, Guerrino Dentistry is located at three locations, including Scarsdale, Mt. Vernon, and Hartsdale.
